Strict Caltrans zoning requirements posed a unique constraint for the Wylden Apartments site in Glassell Park, Los Angeles. AO needed to design a structure providing adequate parking for residents and visitors while not exceeding the building setbacks imposed by Caltrans on top of minimizing the vehicular impact on the roads and mitigating noise from the freeway.

Working with the constraints, the team relocated the stairs to the north side of the building a few feet into the structure. The resulting 7-level parking structure introduced 594 parking stalls for the community along with the client-requested 187 bike stalls all within 227,776 square feet. These bike stalls were added to almost every tier of the structure creating ease of access for residents in the garage. Adding value to the structure is the 5,482 square foot amenity roof deck, fielding modern amenities such as a club room and a wide range of open-air lounge space with outdoor grills and seating.
