The Orion

The Orion is a senior affordable housing community in the city of Orange that thoughtfully strengthens an existing residential environment for seniors and persons with disabilities. The infill development introduces 166 affordable apartments across three new buildings ranging from three to four stories, while preserving and integrating two existing residential structures to maintain continuity within the community. The design focuses on accessibility, comfort, and connection, organizing a network of landscaped courtyards, shared green spaces, and outdoor amenities that support an active daily lifestyle. Inspired by mid-century modern principles, the architecture establishes a calm and familiar residential character through simple massing, clear organization, and a strong relationship to the site. Common amenities, including a clubhouse, fitness center, and gathering spaces, are distributed to encourage social interaction while maintaining ease of use and accessibility. A dedicated dog park and interconnected open spaces further enhance livability and resident experience. By layering new construction with existing community assets, The Orion delivers high-quality affordable housing that reinforces stability, dignity, and connection for its senior residents.
