PHX Surf

PHX Surf is a 40-acre surf-anchored resort and recreation destination planned for Maricopa, Arizona, bringing ocean-quality waves and a lifestyle-driven hospitality experience to the Sonoran Desert. Designed by AO as architect of record, design architect, and landscape architect, the project establishes a fully integrated mixed-use environment centered around an advanced surf lagoon and a curated collection of hospitality, wellness, and entertainment amenities. At its core is a 137,000-square-foot Endless Surf lagoon powered by pneumatic wave technology, capable of producing consistent, high-performance surf conditions for all skill levels while supporting training, recreation, and competitive events. Surrounding the lagoon is a “barefoot luxury” resort district that blends coastal inspiration with the materiality and character of the desert landscape. The hospitality program includes a resort center and approximately 100 bungalow-style accommodations, some with rooftop decks, arranged organically around the water’s edge. Supporting amenities include lagoon-front dining and retail, a full-service spa and wellness center, fitness facilities, surf operations and academy spaces, and landscaped gathering areas that reinforce an active waterfront experience. Future phases are envisioned to expand the destination with additional recreation and entertainment programming, positioning PHX Surf as a regional hub for sport, hospitality, and community-driven outdoor experience.
