KIA DTLA transforms a century-old building on Figueroa Street into a modern, urban automotive destination. This adaptive reuse effort reimagines the 100-year-old structure as a four-story, 133,000-square-foot dealership that seamlessly blends historic character with contemporary design.
Inside, the program integrates a street-facing vehicle display, ground-level service center, mezzanine sales offices, and an upper-level showroom. Vehicle storage and service functions occupy the top floors, supported by new automotive elevators that enhance efficiency within the existing framework. To solve the challenge of vertical circulation, AO introduced a new speed ramp along the building’s east side, allowing vehicles to access the second floor while preserving the historic façade.
Contemporary glazing and subtle exterior enhancements complement the restored architectural details, resulting in a dealership that honors its past while redefining the future of urban automotive retail.
