ROLE
Design Architect
Located at a prominent gateway to downtown Santa Cruz, 201 Front Street reimagines an underutilized urban site as a vibrant mixed-use destination that strengthens connectivity, activates the public realm, and supports the city’s evolving vision for growth. The eight-story development introduces 245 residential units, including a significant mix of two- and three-bedroom homes, alongside 10,000 square feet of commercial space and flexible live-work environments that extend the energy of the downtown district. Designed to complement Santa Cruz’s distinctive character while embracing a contemporary architectural expression, the project creates a dynamic streetscape experience through wide pedestrian walkways, protected bicycle infrastructure, parklets, and a robust urban tree canopy. Public-facing uses and active ground-floor spaces foster engagement along key corridors, while thoughtfully integrated amenities, including co-working areas, rooftop gathering spaces, and a panoramic terrace overlooking the city, river, and coastline, enhance the residential experience. As one of the first projects advancing under the city’s new district vision, 201 Front Street serves as a catalyst for future development, demonstrating how thoughtful urban design can create a more walkable, connected, and resilient community.
